Pocketworks goes to Portugal

Since 2020, Pocketworks has been a remote-first company. We get together every year in a team member's home country to learn and collaborate. This time, we held our training event in Portugal, near Sam's place in Lisbon.

Sam turned 30 on the day we arrived, so instead of taking his birthday off, he cooked an ace BBQ for the whole company.

On arrival, Adam wasted no time and jumped straight into the pool. I got the exact same shot in Tuscany last summer. This is a man who likes wearing a cowboy hat in the pool.

Anna did an amazing job of arranging the event with the help of Judit, Jenny, and Naomi. Here's Anna and Judit on the first night. This is before Matt cleaned my lens, lol.

We run a cofounders scheme at Pocketworks, where the company invests in people's side projects. On the second day, we worked together to help founders tackle various problems they were having in achieving the growth of their apps.

On the third day, we held a hackathon to explore how we could apply new technologies to client projects. For example, we used OpenAI to improve the user experience of the Carbs & Cals app.

We also did an evening team event, where we split into teams and had to create a fun presentation.

On the weekend, we headed to the beach. Marcin, Matt, Matteo, Sam, Mark and Josh went surfing.  Rory, Jenny and I walked about taking photos and looking at the scenery.
